Home physiotherapy brings assessment and rehabilitation into the patient’s environment. It can help when travelling to a clinic is difficult or when goals directly involve movement at home, but it is not the best option for every condition.

Home visits may suit older adults with weakness or falls, patients after surgery or fracture who cannot travel easily, selected neurological conditions, families needing transfer and walking training, and people whose stairs, bathroom or bedroom must be assessed.
Advantages at home
The therapist observes real chairs, beds, corridors and stairs. Sit-to-stand, walking and daily tasks can be practised while furniture height, trip hazards and caregiver technique are addressed.
Limitations
A clinic may provide more space, equipment and high-level testing. Some patients need medical assessment or tools that cannot be brought home. The environment must also be safe and quiet. Care may begin at home and later move to the clinic.
The first visit
The therapist reviews diagnosis, medication and surgical or imaging reports where relevant, then assesses strength, motion, balance, gait and daily activities. Goals and a home program follow. A home visit should not be only massage or machine treatment.
Safety
Fall risk and general health are screened. New shortness of breath, chest pain, sudden weakness, fever with deterioration or marked calf swelling needs medical care rather than a routine home session.
Preparing the home
Have medication and reports ready, wear comfortable clothing and provide a small safe space. A family member should attend when transfer help or memory support is needed. Tell the clinic about stairs, infection risk or access difficulty.
Session number depends on goals, limitations and how independently the patient and family can perform the plan. Walking, sit-to-stand and balance measures guide progression and discharge.
PhysioTech first checks whether a home visit is appropriate, then provides exercise, manual therapy, functional training and caregiver education as required.

The PhysioTech Home Physiotherapy Approach
At PhysioTech Clinic in Zahraa El Maadi, Cairo, we first check whether a home visit is safe and appropriate or whether medical or clinic-based care is needed. Movement, strength, balance, gait and meaningful tasks are examined in the patient’s real environment.
Measurable Goals
Standing from a chair, walking a defined distance, stairs and safe transfers provide baselines. Retesting guides load progression and visit frequency.
Exercise and Functional Training
Exercise therapy centres on graded loading and meaningful home tasks, with manual therapy for a defined purpose and family training in safe assistance when appropriate.
Adjuncts and Independence
Electrotherapy or therapeutic ultrasound may be used selectively, but do not replace assessment, exercise therapy and graded loading. Strength, balance, walking and support needs are reviewed to build independence and transition to the clinic when equipment or space is needed.
