Manual Therapy
Hands-on joint mobilisation and soft tissue release — for neck, back and shoulder stiffness and restricted joint movement.
About this service
Manual therapy is a set of hands-on techniques in which the therapist mobilises a joint or releases muscle and surrounding tissue. Its main value is opening up range of motion and reducing pain quickly — which is what allows the patient to do the exercises that drive long-term improvement.

Conditions we treat
- Neck stiffness and restricted rotation
- Frozen shoulder
- Thoracic and lower back stiffness
- Post-surgical tissue adhesions
- Trigger points and muscle guarding
- Restricted joint mobility generally
How treatment works
- 1
Hands-on examination
The therapist assesses the joint and muscles by hand to locate exactly where movement is restricted and by how much.
- 2
Joint mobilisation
Graded, controlled movements to restore the joint's natural glide — no forceful or sudden manoeuvres.
- 3
Soft tissue release
Pressure and release techniques on muscle and fascia to reduce tension and deactivate trigger points.
- 4
Locking it in with exercise
Range opened up by manual therapy closes again without exercise. This part is not optional.
Frequently asked questions
Is it the same as massage?
No. Massage works mainly on muscle and relaxation. Manual therapy targets the joint and its range with specific techniques chosen from a clinical examination.
Is the cracking sound dangerous?
Some techniques produce a sound; it is normal and comes from a pressure change inside the joint. We explain any technique before performing it.
Can manual therapy alone be enough?
It gives quick relief, but without exercise the result regresses. We use it to open the door for exercise, not as a standalone treatment.
